Topology WG: International Peering

Internet2's members rely, not only on excellent networking among members, but also on excellent networking between Internet2 universities and select universities and laboratories that are members of Internet2's international MOU partners. To help satisfy these needs, the working group contributes in several specific ways:
  • The Internet2 infrastructure interconnects with many of the networks of our international MOU partners. Most of these interconnections are with the Abilene and the vBNS, but in a few cases an Interne2 gigaPoP provides the direct connection. The Topology WG advises the Internet2 Director for International Relations on issues surrounding these interconnections.
  • The Topology WG will also serve to identify the needs of Internet2 members for access to specific resources best reached by interconnection to non-US networks. Examples might include specialized laboratories or observatories. Based on these needs and on knowledge within the Topology WG of the interconnectivity of international peering, effective ways to satisfy these needs will be identified.
Both Internet2 staff and other WG members can contribute to these.
